Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has made 10,000 arrests in a five-day period— doubling its arrest numbers— according to the NYT, and much of it hasn’t been reaching headlines. The U.S. has been wrapped up in festivities with several cities hosting the FIFA World Cup, including Seattle, and with Pride events and parades.
“Nearly 70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens charged or convicted of a crime in the U.S. More than 3 million illegal aliens are out of the country and counting. Our message is clear: if you come to our country illegally, we will find you, we will arrest you, and we will deport you,” DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis claimed in a statement to FoxNews.
Yesterday morning, shortly before 8 a.m., ICE arrested a father in White Center, and his baby daughter was sitting in the back seat of his car at the time, as reported by ZonedOutPNW. The mother was able to safely grab her daughter, and said they had papers, but agents took him away anyway. Neighbors came outside and yelled at the masked men; some used whistles and others started recording and calling 911 to report the incident, according to ZonedOutPNW. This was only one of several recent reported kidnappings in Western Washington over the past week.
Former Oklahoma politician Markwayne Mullin took over as DHS Secretary at the end of March, after Kristi Noem was fired. Mullin promised to keep the department out of major headlines after shockwaves rippled through the country following the executions of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, among others.
