What do we know about the UW stabbing suspect, Christopher Michael Leahy?
May 14, 2026

By Hannah Saunders

Christopher Michael Leahy is a 31-year-old male suspect facing charges of Murder in the Second Degree for allegedly stabbing a UW Trans student to death in an off-campus housing facility on the night of Mother’s Day. So, what do we know about him so far?

He has been a self-published author on Amazon for the past decade, and has previously worked as a freelance programmer. Leahy has two children; he and the mother went to court in 2014 to settle child support and work out a parenting plan, which was finalized in 2015, according to King County Superior Court records.

A 2013 article by Seattle PI explains how he was bullied during his freshman and sophomore years at University Prep, a private high school in Wedgwood. The bullying consisted of racial slurs and physical violence. After Leahy reported it to school staff and his parents, the school refused to readmit him for his senior year because he didn’t fit into its “social fabric,” according to the article. The family went on to sue University Prep.

Leahy also owned a property down in Auburn, which he sold in 2023. He has a first appearance hearing today at 2 p.m. at the Seattle Jail Courtroom. The judge will review his case and determine if there’s a probable cause. They will then inform Leahy of the charges and his rights, and will set the bail amount or conditions of release.
