Are you prepared for the pineapple express?

Are you prepared for the pineapple express?
December 9, 2025

By Hannah Saunders

The “pineapple express” arrived in Washington yesterday, and the Puget Sound region will experience high gusts of wind and heavy rainfall throughout the week. A pineapple express is a strong and narrow atmospheric river, where moisture around Hawai’i and the Pacific builds up and expels on the west coast.

Seattle is on flood watch until December 12, and power outages are expected to occur. Here’s what you can do to stay prepared:

  • Stock up on supplies, like food, water and beverages, candles, flashlights, batteries, and medications.
  • Drive slowly and ensure there is at least one car space between you and the vehicle ahead. Keep a blanket, snacks, and water in your vehicle.
  • If you live in an RV or are unhoused, keep clear from trees and power lines.
  • Secure or store loose outdoor items, like trash bins, sports equipment, and patio furniture.

If power outages or flooding occur, check in on your neighbors, particularly those who are elderly or living with disabilities. Regularly view updates at weather.gov/sew.

Rest peacefully, Juniper 🥺 What do we know about Christopher Michael Leahy, the man who *allegedly* murdered a Trans UW student on the night of Mother's Day? Some of the memorial chalk before UW directed staff to wash it away this morning Because a sterile looking building is more important than words of love for the murdered Trans student Booking info for the suspect who allegedly stabbed a Trans UW student to death.
