The Seattle Art Museum VSO [Visitor Service Officers] Union will be hosting a “Solidarity is Not Scary” art auction and fundraiser on Oct. 23 from 6-9 p.m. at Parnassus, marking the third annual event. The union, which represents the facility’s security guards, is preparing for the end of its first contract in June of 2027.
People are encouraged to wear costumes, and proceeds will go towards building a strike fund and legal fees, but the union is taking things one step further by supporting the King County Immigrant Rights Alliance (KCIRA). The Alliance is a grassroots org that pushes back against immigration enforcement horrors within the county.
“SAM VSO union stands in solidarity with migrants under attack by ICE/ the Trump administration, and we are proud to partner with KCIRA this year,” it stated.
20% of funds raised from the event will go towards KCIRA. Union members, as well as other museum staff and community members, donated art to be auctioned off at the event, which will feature a DJ and speakers from different organizations.
“The most important thing to us is for everyone to show up ready to have a good time, appreciate some worker-created art, and keep the spirit of solidarity alive,” the union said.
