Katie Wilson and Mayor Bruce Harrell neck-in-neck ahead of primaries

Katie Wilson and Mayor Bruce Harrell neck-in-neck ahead of primaries
August 3, 2025

By Hannah Saunders

Seattle primaries are a day away, and a sticker that says “Fuck you, Bruce” was recently spotted on a crosswalk sign, highlighting the strong desire for leadership change in the city. The Northwest Progressive Institute (NPI) recently released its July 2025 Civic Heartbeat survey data, and Mayor Bruce Harrell and challenger Katie Wilson are neck-in-neck.

“The other six candidates running received no meaningful support in the survey, which suggests voters are coalescing behind the frontrunners in the voting that’s now taking place across the Emerald city,” NPI said.

There’s been much excitement about Wilson this campaign season due to her progressive approaches towards affordable housing and transportation, as well as plans to fill in federal funding gaps for SNAP and more that are caused by the Trump regime. Wilson also has a proven track record of accomplishments, like working to raise the minimum wage in unincorporated King County, Tukwila, and Burien. Meanwhile, Harrell is laden with scandals and even has a website dedicated to them.

Below are some headlines from local publications regarding Harrell’s conduct:

Ballots are due by 8 p.m. on August 4.

University of Washington (UW) students organized a memorial and rally at Kane Hall on May 13 to honor Juniper Blessing, a Transgender student murdered in off-campus student housing, and after Turning Point USA (TPUSA) canceled a controversial anti-trans event located on campus. Speakers described the gathering as a memorial for Blessing as well as a show of community with Transgender students navigating grief and feelings of oppression within the LGBTQ+ community. Some students have expressed that the planned TPUSA event heightened those concerns because of its timing so soon after Blessing’s death. Tomorrow, several Seattle organizations are rallying after 78 years of Nakba and resistance. Students and community members have arranged this memorial for Juniper Blessing, which consists of flowers, stuffed animals, oranges, letters, candles, and more. Mayor Wilson values photo opps over informing the public of AI expansion in daily tasks of city departments, furthering sueveillance expansion. Yesterday, UW staff power washed memorial chalk for 19-year-old Juniper Blessing, who was fatally stabbed on the night of Mother's Day.
