Seattle residents are demanding action from Mayor Wilson, who refuses to hold conversations with people impacted by police violence who are seeking resources, and who is expanding video surveillance, despite mass outrage. Her constituents have begun calling her “Shady Katie” for rolling back on campaign promises and a general lack of direct action as it relates to combating fascism.
But Wilson and her comms team seem to be more pressed about optics, using the government account for promoting personal content. Official government social media accounts are generally used to provide updates about city happenings to the public.
While recognition for artists and smaller businesses is generally positive, Mayor Wilson’s decision to promote her stylist on a tax-payer funded platform may be viewed as an unethical use of influence.
This comes after TtS reported on Mayor Wilson’s Instagram account limiting comments, with constituents increasingly stating that their comments have been allegedly deleted. The Mayor’s Office states otherwise.
