Capitol Hill Pride launched a petition several hours ago to push legislators to file an emergency injunction to get ICE out of Washington. But yesterday, Gov. Bob Ferguson said he and Attorney General Nick Brown have no power when it comes to keeping ICE out of the state.
Created by Capitol Hill Pride director Charlotte LeFevre, the petition references ICE’s aggressive tactics, school disruptions, injuries and deaths, and more.
The petition reads:
Whereas persons should not have to live in fear. Immigrants, Transgenders, LGBTQAI+ community and Citizens should not have their civil and human rights violated. Students should not have to live in fear. Families should not worry about sending their children to school.
Whereas with the ongoing conduct of ICE who have demonstrated excessive use of force and brutality with impunity to citizens we call on citizens to support an immediate emergency injunction against ICE operating in the State of Washington.
Whereas our first amendment states:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”.
